Singapore has launched the world's first Electronic Tourist Refund Scheme (eTRS), which will aim to cut down the GST refund process time for tourists from 20 minutes to 3 minutes by automating the current paper-based process, cutting the need for further form-filling and long queues at the airport.

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) The MRT in Singapore is a modern, air-conditioned passenger train service with stations all over the island. There are four main lines – the North-South line from Marina Bay to Jurong East, the East-West line from Changi Airport/Pasir Ris to Joo Koon, the North-East line from Harbour Front to Punggol and the new Circle line from Bishan to Dhoby Ghaut interchange. Trains operate at intervals of between two and a half minutes and eight minutes from 0530 hrs until 0030 hrs daily. For precise train arrival/departure timings, please check at respective MRT stations. Travelling on the MRT is cheap, with rides ranging from S$1.00 to a maximum of S$2.20.
Bus SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation Ltd (SMRT) both operate regular bus services. Ezlink cards, which are valid on the MRT as well as bus services operated by SBS Transit and SMRT, are available at most MRT stations. To get to SAA by bus, you can take SBS Transit buses numbered 2, 9, 19, 29, 59, 89 and 109.
How do I confirm my return travel booking with the airlines?
Participants are advised to confirm their return travel bookings with the airlines concerned at the earliest opportunity after arrival (at least 72 hours before departure). The hotel concierges can confirm the return travel bookings for participants. To change flights or departure dates, participants are advised to directly contact the airline. The local currency is Singapore Dollars and cents. $500, $100, $50, $10, $5 and $2 notes are in circulation along with $1, $0.50, $0.20, $0.10 and $0.05 coins. There are no restrictions on the import of foreign currencies. Foreign currencies may be taken out of the country up to the amount imported.
International credit cards such as American Express, Diners Club, Visa, Master Card, etc. are widely accepted at hotel, department stores and restaurants.
Banks are open between 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, Monday through Friday and between 8.30 am to 1.00 pm on Saturday. Most banks also handle travellers cheques and currency exchange. Most shopping complexes have licensed money changers. Money changers can also be found at Changi Airport.
What attire would be most comfortable for Singapore’s weather?
Singapore has a warm tropical weather with average daily temperature of 27º Celsius occurring in the afternoons and a minimum of about 24º Celsius just before dawn. July and August are the hottest and driest months when average temperatures are usually at their peak. Relative humidity often exceed 90% at night and in the early hours of the morning. In the afternoons, it is usually between 60% and 70%.
Light summer clothing is most practical for Singapore’s tropical weather, especially for outdoor activities like sightseeing. Only a few places require formal wear for the evening. Visitors can also call beforehand to check.
Tap water in Singapore is clean and safe to drink. However, for those who prefer bottled mineral water, local supermarkets and grocers always have ample stocks.
Smoking is prohibited in the majority of indoor locations in Singapore – including cinemas, air conditioned shopping malls and offices, bus interchanges and shelters, swimming pools, public transports, lift, government offices, etc. Designated smoking areas are allowed in certain premises such as eating establishments and entertainment outlets.

Tipping is not a way of life in Singapore. It is prohibited at the airport and discouraged in hotels and restaurants where there is a 10% service charge.
Most hotels provide postal services at the front desk. Operating hours of Post offices varies for different locations. To find out the operating hours for specific location, please refer to the Singpost website. Telegrams, telex and facsimile services are also available.
Public payphones operated by credit card and/or stored-value phonecards can be used to make both local and international calls. Public payphones can be found in most shopping complexes and MRT stations. Local calls are charged at 10 cents per 3 minutes. Stored-value phonecards in denominations of S$2, S$5, S$10, S$20 and S$50 can be purchased from post offices and phonecard agents. To make an international call, dial the access code followed by the country code, area code & telephone number. Different telephone companies use different access codes - 001 for SingTel, 002 for M1 and 008 for Starhub. International Calling Cards in denominations of SGD10, SGD20 and SGD50 are also available at all post offices including Changi Airport, 7-Eleven stores and other retail outlets.

One Way Shuttle Bus Service from Tanah Merah MRT Station to SAA (On Trial)
As part of a new customer service initiative, we will be having a shuttle bus service from Tanah Merah MRT station to SAA for course participants. This trial free service will commence from 14 Nov to 31 Dec 2011.
