Aviation Insight Series on EU and Global Regulations on Denied Boarding, Cancellation and Delay and their Implications on Non-EU Airlines, 14 May 2018

SAA held its first Aviation Insight Series (AvIS) talk for the year on 14 May 2018, attracting close to 30 attendees from the local aviation industry. The series is an SAA’s initiative to engage the local aviation community, in line with its role as a focal point for the exchange of insights and experiences in aviation.

Mr Michael Scheurich, Attorney at Law, MBA, gave a talk on 'EU and Global Regulations on Denied Boarding, Cancellation and Delay and their Implications on Non-EU Airlines'. The talk provided attendees with insights into the Regulation’s substantive rules, the evolution of court rulings and how to address claims. Global trends under similar legal schemes were also discussed. The talk was followed by a lively ‘Question and Answer’ session which was moderated by Ms Tan Siew Huay, Director of Legal Division, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.

The talk was well-received by the attendees, who had these to say:

  • “Very informative and interesting to see the difference between law versus reality in the EU aviation ruling.” – Ms Belinda Yek, Scoot Tigerair Pte Ltd
  • “Good platform to hear from the regulator and airline perspective.” – Ms Tan Yi Ling, International Air Transport Association
  • “It helps to know how to handle passengers travelling on EU airlines, especially for ground handlers and airlines.” – Mr Cedric Clunies-Ross, SriLankan Airlines Ltd
