More than 140 aviation professionals gathered at the Singapore Aviation Academy on 13 April 2010 to attend the SAA Aviation Insight Series. Mr James Burin, Director of Technical Programmes for the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), delivered a talk on 'Global Safety: Success and Challenges'.
The talk focussed on reviewing recent global aviation safety performance, causes of accidents and developing trends. Mr Burin also provided a broad overview of civil aviation’s record of safety improvements, the key drivers for success and onward challenges.
Flight Safety Foundation’s ongoing approach and landing accident reduction (ALAR) initiatives were also discussed, while the session also focused on the specific challenge of runway excursions, and the examination of risk factors and controls.
The programme ended with a dialogue session with Mr James Burin, moderated by Mr Kang Huei Wang, Head of SAA’s School of Aviation Safety and Security.
The SAA Aviation Insight Series serves as a platform for knowledge sharing among Singapore's aviation community, and features speakers from Singapore and around the world, addressing a wide range of issues of topical interest.
