More than 80 aviation professionals from 25 countries gathered at SAA to attend the ICAO-SAA Training Directors Seminar on Human Resource Development: Challenges and the Way Forward on 24 – 25 June 2010 jointly organized by the ICAO Asia & Pacific Regional Office and SAA.
The Seminar addressed the latest initiatives in aviation human resource developments and training best practices. Participants gained insights into the regulators, operators and training centres’ perspectives, on the challenges in recruiting, educating, training and retaining aviation professionals.
In his welcome address, Mr Yap Ong Heng, Director-General, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, said, ‘‘This Seminar provides a timely platform for members of the Asia Pacific region to discuss and seek solutions to the challenges and issues we all individually and collectively have to address in aviation human capital development. It provides an excellent opportunity to expound further aviation training initiatives, especially under the ICAO’s NGAP, and build consensus on the way forward in relation to the Asia Pacific region.’’
The closing remark was delivered by Mr Tay Tiang Guan, Deputy Director General, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. Mr Tay Tiang Guan emphasised the importance of focusing on the training needs, priorities and methodologies with a view to meeting the demand for a more aviation personnel and training in the future.
