SAA was privileged to work with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to jointly organise the inaugural DGCAs Course on Aviation Safety on 21 - 22 November 2014, hosted by Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department, just ahead of the 51st DGCA Conference held in Hong Kong. The compact 2-day course was attended by 16 DGCAs and was facilitated by senior officials from ICAO, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and SAA including Ms Nancy Graham, Director (Air Navigation Bureau), ICAO and Mr Yap Ong Heng, Director-General, CAAS.
The course addressed the international aviation safety framework before moving on to the national framework. Through presentations, panel discussions and active interactions between participants and facilitators, the course allowed for open sharing of challenges facing DGCAs and sharing of ideas and experiences on how to deal with the various issues.
The next run of this course will be held on 31 January - 1 February 2015 in Montreal, Canada, ahead of the 2nd ICAO High-level Safety Conference.
